Question:
I think im eating too much.
Can someone please help me. I seem to feel hungry all the time and I crave bad foods. Sometimes I eat them sometimes I dont. I get lots of water in and my protien. Take for dinner last night I had a grilled cheese and some chips. I didnt eat the crust off the bread and it was wheat. Is this bad or what? I can't seem to stop feeling hungry. Please can someone suggest something. — Julie M. (posted on May 14, 2002)

Hi! Have you been trying the water loading technique? Drink as much water
as you possibly can an hour after your meal and up to thirty minutes before
you plan on eating something. I am drinking close to a gallon of water a
day. When I get that much water in I notice that I am not so hungry. Then
if you are hungry eat. As long as you have been drinking your water and
wait 30 minutes prior. Try to make three meals and two to three snacks a
day.

Hi there! The VitaLady (Michelle) will probably dial in on this one...and
has far more experience...but... You did say you get your protein, so
that's good. I know - for me - if I really FOCUS on the protein, I have
less cravings. Today, for example, I had a protein shake for breakfast,
cottage cheese for a morning snack, Grilled Tuna and salad for lunch...and
a couple of non-fat lattes (I won't lie). I have almost no cravings. When
I have cereal for breakfast...and lower dose proteins for lunch..I find
myself eating snacks like cookies, etc. I swear by the protein and water!!
Best of luck to you! Open RNY 7/17/01, -97, 40 to go.

Hi Julie, I am in the same boat. Almost 5 months out and about 80 pounds
lost. But I feel myself getting out of control and eating the wrong
things. I seriously thought about going back to Weight Watchers to help me
keep track of the "right" foods to eat. I so don't want to gain
back this weight. If you find any major answers please let me know!!!

You didn't mention how far along post-op you were. I am 4& 1/2 months
out. I can eat a half a sandwich now, with about 5 chips, &/or, I can
eat about a cup of food at a sitting. It seems like I eat alot too. I eat
three times a day. Sometimes I snack on pretzels, between meals.
Try snaking on low-cal foods. Add a little substance to your protien drinks
too. Add some frozen strawberries in the blender along with your protien
powder, you can also add some Splenda for sweetness. It'll thicken your
protien drinks and get you away from being hungry.
One other thought, I go thru stages of being hungry, [like I did the first
three months], then I phased into a not so hungry period. Food isn't a big
deal to me this week. Hope I helped.
