Question:
Pain Meds ? They keep giving me more and more Nsaids
I am 4 years out next month and I have pain in my feet and I also have osteoarthritis. Lots of joints that are hurting. I have told the DR. I had WLS and can not take Nsaids. They look at me like I do not know what I am talking about. What can I take to help with pain and swelling? Please Help — ekmeadows (posted on October 20, 2009)

Take your Dr that is trying to give you meds you can not take the list of
med you are allowed to take and not allowed to take. Or find a new pain
DR. I have found ALL of my Dr's are willing to follow my surgeons list of
meds I may & may not use. Best of luck

I have the same problem. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of
arthritis. I take extra strength tylenol (2) and it really helps. You
should also seek a visit to a podiatrist. He/she may think you might
benefit from orthotics.
Good luck

doctor? On my first year as of 30 sept. have RA, Fibro, and osteo with the
weather changing the pain is no joke! They have me on cymbalta and soma.
Much water and rest.

If the doc still insists on putting you on NSAIDS after you told him/her,
realize that they are not listening to what you are saying. When they give
you a rx for ansaids, tell them again that you cannot have NSAIDS. If it
continues, tell them that you are allergic to NSAIDS. They won't give them
to you if you say you are allergic to them and will give you something else
to take.

I, too, have a severe problem taking any NSAIDs after having the sleeve
gastrectomy. My physician gives me Darvon (propoxyphene) unlike the more
commonly used Darvocet N-100 (propoxyphene with acetaminophen). It helps
most of the time. You can also get codeine by itself instead of Tylenol #3
(acetaminophen with codeine). You might have to keep going until you find a
physician who is willing to listen and work with you. My physician often
works in conjunction with a pain management specialist. I think that is
basically for his protection so he isn't flagged for writing too many RXs
for pain medication. Most physicians are funny that way even though your
medical record would support pain medication use if challenged. I think
they just don't want the hassle. Good luck.

Elaine.....First and foremost you and I both know that if you are seeking
any relief for a medical problem from a Doctor that doesn't know didli doo
scott about Gastric surgery you should be seeking that relief from A
DIFFERENT DOC! Secondly, call or contact YOUR GASTRIC Doc and have them
refer you to a Doc with a clue. YOU are the most important person in YOUR
life. For without YOU, there is no one else. Get your info and seek a Doc
to help you. You CAN take NSAIDS Elaine, but only if you PROTECT your
pouch.
AGAIN...YOU are the most important thing when you see a Doc.

I needed all of the best wishes I see in all of the answers to the pain
med. The Dr's in this small town in AR. Are not very good . As for the
DR> who did my WLS never did call the Ortho. or My Family DR. as he said
he would to tell them about the meds.I think I was one of the first in this
area to let him do the Surgery. And this is not what he does even monthy. I
took a chance on him,But I did not feel he is there for me. I am seeking
someone in Tulsa OK. I should have done it sooner. So thanks God Bless
