Question:
How soon for weight loss after surgery?
I am one week post-op. I came home from hospital and weighed 211, the next morning I was 203. I was sure that was all fluid loss from the surgery. Problem is I am now 201 and it's not moving. I have stuck right to the bariatric diet (no cheating). I am also walking as much as I feel up to. I am worried somethiong is wrong that I am not losing. Anyone out there had this happen? — muffin1837 (posted on September 13, 2007)

Good morning, my name is cindy and I am a gastric bypass patient out 5
years and also a clinic coordintor for a program in PA. What you are
experiencing is normal, you may get up 3-4 days from now and have lost
5lbs. Your body need time to adj to what has happened to it. Stop and think
about it, that is 10 lbs in 1 week, usually when I have the patients come
in at 2 weeks for staple removal the average weight loss is about 20lbs and
so you are right on track. JUST RELAX.

Hi. I am nine months out and don't remember weighing myself that first week
but the weight does come off and when it does, watch out! I am down 128
pounds and have never felt better in my life! Time will fly by as you get
healthy! Good Luck!

RNY? Lapband? If you are referring to RNY, then you are doing fine! You
are still swollen until about the 3rd week! My God, you just had MAJOR
surgery! Take a deep breath and STOP weighing yourself so much! This is
NOT a miracle cure and the weight isn't going to just fall off! Keep
following the plan and enjoy life! Good luck and God Bless.

10 lbs in a week is great! You shouldn't be weighing yourself every
day...once a week is plenty. Your weight at the doctor's office will be
different than at home. Be sure to weigh yourself on the same day every
week (I do Friday), naked first thing in the AM before showering but after
using the bathroom. That's the # you should go by! Your body is
adjusting...I wasw 8.5 lbs down after one week. You are doing great. Keep
up the walking and don't eat more than you are supposed to. An average
monthly weight loss is about 12 lbs. so you are way ahead!

* 5/21-415 (size 30/32)Pre-op diet
* 6/6-387 Surgery date
* 6/14-371
* 6/25-363
* 7/01-358.5
* 7/10-351.5 (size 24/26)
* 7/16-345.8
* 8/01-338.0 (8 Wks)
* 08/15-331.2 (10 weeks)
* 09/03-318.6 (13 wks & -97 lbs)
* 09-09-308.0 (13 weeks & -107 lbs)
That is -28 Lbs. Pre-op (3weeks)
-79 Lbs. Post-op (13 weeks)
-107 Lbs Total (16 weeks)
You can see there were slower weeks and days when it just fell off faster
than you could imagine but your body is busy trying to keep up with the
changes and I think you need to relax and enjoy the ride for at least a
month or two before you start to doubt it. It is exciting and if you are
not cheating you will loose weight so have fun and I have another longer
piece on my page if you want to read it.

You don't think 9 pounds in one week is good? The initial loss may have
been water, but that usually comes back on when you commence drinking!
That means that it is now officially lost weight! Nine pounds in a week!
You are doing great!
