Question:
Its been 3 weeks and I have only lost 21 lbs. Am I doing something wrong?
I have read others profiles and they have lost over 30 lbs in a month. I've only lost 21 lbs. I think Im doing something wrong. I had wanted to lose at least 30 lbs. by my first month. I dont think thats going to happen. Can anyone give me some advise on what I'm doing wrong? -Madeline — Maddielq (posted on March 24, 2006)

It sounds like you are doing just fine. I wouldn't worry about it.
Everyone drops at a different rate. It may take off all of a sudden and
you will be amazed at how fast it will drop. Keep up the good work and
don't be so hard on yourself. You are only 3 weeks out and you are still
healing. Walk as much as you can. Any physical activity will help in the
weight loss. Good luck!! Tom

I freaked out my first few weeks too. I thought that the weight wouldn't
come off but I'm 4 months out and 109lbs down now. I lost the most my
second month. Don't stress out, you are going to hit plateaus and then
you'll wake up one day with 10lbs gone! Eat your protein and
exercise..21lbs is GREAT! Happy losing..Nancy

Madeline you are doing great! I am 9 months out and as of today I am 100
lbs. gone; 121 from my highest. We all lose at a different rate. I myself
would rather loose at a little slower rate and let my skin go back as much
as possible. At my six month checkup my doc said he would have liked my to
have more pounds off but when he compared my BMI and fat content I was
loosing fat not muscle which is a good thing so he was very pleased with
me. Keep up the good work!! It will all come off in due time. God Bless!

"Only" 21 pounds in three weeks??? Go easy on yourself! That is
a lot of weight, if you think about it ... Just do what you need to do to
be healthy and let the scale take care of itself. You are doing great!

I understand exactly what you're saying! i I am 4 weeks out and down 21
lbs. So, you're doing better than me. I too have read other profiles where
they have lost alot of weight in the first month. But, I have heard many
say, the smaller you're B.M.I, the slower you loose,And the slower you
loose, the more permanant it will be! So, just take it one day at a time
and we both will be skinny winnies! LOL! ~Melissa

I had surgery Nov 1, and have lost 51 lbs total. However, the last 2
months, I have been averaging 2-4 lbs per week. I think of lot of it
depends on where you started. Someone who starts out in the 300 range will
lose faster than someone who started at the 250 range. However, I do wish
mine was at least 5 lbs a week. But I am losing inches. I recently bought
a size 16 stretch pants and they fit.

Oh my gosh...you are doing terrific....I know how you feel....but just keep
up doing what you are doing...that is 7 pounds per week average...fantastic
results....keep walking and it will literally melt off....I am 14 weeks
post op and down 74 as of this morning....it will happen; no two bodies
loose at the same rate....

First, CHILL OUT! Secondly, eat right and drink your fluids. DO NOT
COMPARE YOURSELF to others! everyone is different. A lot has to do with
how overweight to begin with, your activity level and your metabolism.
I am a slow loser and have always been a slow loser. I know it is
frustrating to hear about others HUgE losses, but slow and steady wins the
race, too. In fact, as I have been advised by my surgeon, 1-2 pounds per
week is very good and allows the skin more time to adjust to the loss of
fat. SO, a more natural look and gradual.
Watch your calorie intake if you think you might be
overeating......and by that I mean liquid calories add up just like solids
do. My problem is protein is harder to digest and I get uncomfortable if I
eat one bite too much. Carbs are so much easier, but not desired for weight
control. It is a balancing act, all the time! Good luck and stop
comparing. As long as the numbers are going DOWN, you are on the right
track!!

First of all, relax. You can't compare yourself to other people. Everyone's
body loses different because we all have different things going on with our
bodies. Also, you DO realize that at 21 pounds in three weeks that you're
losing a POUND A DAY? Most people w/o surgery struggle to lose a pound a
week. You're doing awesome.

You are doing great!!! Try not to compare youself to others though I know
it's hard not too. I don't think you're doing anything wrong your body is
just different. I'm 3 yrs post op & lost 140lbs & I lost faster
than some & slowers than others I was just happy to be losing at all.
Keep up the good work :)

That definitely is not slow. I lost 26 pounds the first month...some
months I didn't lose any, and others more. Still at the end of a year and
half, I had ALL my weight off...the ones that were losing in great chunks
at the beginning didn't necessarily get down that far. I think we panic
because of the old ways. We'd try to lose a lot because when the regain
came..it would take longer. We try not to anticipate a regain with
this...and you more than likely won't for the first year or two.....if your
not careful, you can count on it. Just do what you need to do, and stay
off the scale. Regards~
