Question:
Almost 4 months post-op and need to jump start lose after holidays

Hi, I am almost 4 months post op and I have fallen of the wagon some. I have foundout that I can tolerate sugar and want to break this habit. I am working hard to start my lose back but want to make sure I can start lose at the pace it was before the slip of sweets / wine. The doctor said the wine was okay if done in moderation but I want to lose more than my 54lbs so far. Please help me get on track soon. Thanks    — shantrism (posted on December 27, 2005)

Hi you two. Well, I would suggest you go back to the food plan you were on. Wine is a killer. High in sugar and numbs the tummy so you can eat more. I know, it is good stuff. This is something you have to decide for yourself. Remember protein first, no drink 30 minutes before or after a meal. Keep us posted. We are here for you. huuugzzz

Increasing the frequency, duration, intensity and variety of your exercise program can help you shed those last pounds. Best of luck. Kasey 365/210 (nonop)

I can send you a starting over plan, if you'd like. You might find it puts you back in control a bit. Or not. I usually send it to people who are 1+ years out, but if you want to get back on track NOW, maybe it can help?

The best answer I can give you is, remember what made you want to loose the weight to begin with. I am so happy with my new body I don't ever want to be the way I was before surgery. I am 6 months out and have lost 105 lbs. I feel so much better and I look better. If that is motivation enough I don't think anyone can say anything to help resist the wine and sweets. I consider myself worthy to resist a moments pleasure. And you need to tell yourself the same thing, because YOU ARE WORTH IT.

Unfortunately, the only way to do it is to stop eating sweets. I want to have "just one piece" of chocolate for the holidays, but I know if I start, i will continue. You know what you have to do. You can try taking up a hobby, such as crocheting or Knifty Knitter, that keeps your hands too busy to reach for goodies. Also, keep drinking water so that your tummy is full.

I am 7 months out and have lost 118 pounds...that part is great.... You are overeating at just 4 months out? I couldn't do it if I wanted to! I had the DS and since they actually remove the portion of your tummy that is resp for the hunger hormone, I have to TELL myself eat a few bites. And sugar.....YUK....don't even want it.... Also, My doc said not to drink any alcohol for at least a year as we absorb it all...Good luck in your endeavors. My friend is considering the RNY and her doc told her she'd have to diet for the rest of her life....*EGADS*....I wouldn't wanna do that...but she's made her mind up, so it's her deal. I've heard that you can jumpstart loss by drinking peppermint tea....tons of folks swear by it! Best wishes...

I am over 3.5 years post op and I can tell you what I do to maintain every pound of my weight loss (went from 269 to 134) even with the occassional splurge.....it's all about weight training and exercise in general. Weight training 3 times per week has really been a godsend to my metabolism. Not only does it make me feel great and look better, but weight training your muscles increases your ability to burn fat....even when you are just sitting (resting metabolism). It took me a few months ro figure out that my killer cardio workouts with only 1-2 days of light weight training were not keeping my weight stable. Added more weights and make it 3 days and I can cheat a little. Not to say I eat bad or alot, but for those occassional glasses of wine and cookie here or there. Good luck!
