Question:
Any one here have lupus or leukemia?

I went to the hospital yesterday and the doctor there told me he thinks i have some sort of AutoImmune disease and he thinks it's either Lupus or Leukemia because my white cell count has been elevated so long and it's getting higher. He said my sedimentation rate was high and my rdw diff was high and also my ddimer test he did a cat scan and saw nothing that would cause problems but said that it's something, the sucky part is i just left my suregeons office yesterday to and i was so excited my pre-op testing is scheduled for next Wed.and i should have the surgery by the end of the month.I would just like to know if anyone else has any of these disease and if so what happens if you do.Thanks for reading i'm terrified here :(    — skyeyez26 (posted on January 3, 2003)

HI :-) I have lupus myself and was really concerned about having the surgery as to what might happen...lupus can be diagnosed by a blood test, if your doc hasn't done one already then make sure he does. i had my surgery 11/19 and i'm doing great, i thought it would flare but my counts look great and i haven't been in any pain persay...if you want to talk drop me an e-mail. i know what its like to be scared of the unknown :-). ta, heather

Lukemia is a very serious disease. It is cancer of the blood. Lupus is much less serious. Before you have surgery, I would see a hematologist / oncologist. My best friend is an onclogy/hematology specialist and I am also a soon to be pre-med student, (I just got accepted). Anyway, I have worked in this field for a few years and lukemia is very serious. If they suspect that you have it they will do what is called a bone marrow test. Its not too painful, but they will be able to tell. They would probably induce chemotherapy for treatment. This would lower your immune level... Not to scare you, but I would get my butt to a specialist right away if this is a concern. First they will run a cbc and discuss w/ you what they think is going on and schedule testing from there. What is your wbc? Is it over 15? Check into this before going for surgery.. Good luck. I wish you the best and will pray for you.
