Question:
How do you gain weight when you are not eating.
I am about 3wks out. I got on the scale and I have gained 2lbs. OK. I dont get all my protein in I usually have 2 -3 tbs of eggs 1 sausage, shake, 1bottle of water, 1/3 cup of greek yogurt and that is it all day. How can I be gaining? What am I doing wrong? — Athinnermom (posted on February 2, 2010)

The body will go on starvation mode without enough food, the body says
"whoa, wait a minute, if I am not getting enough food and regular
intervals than maybe I need to slow that metabolism down so I can save my
energy." I haven't had surgery yet but I do know that. I also know
that you need to eat at regular set intervals.

Tina is right. If you aren't getting in enough calories, your metabolism
slows way down, so you can actually gain weight or plateau. Also, do try
and get your protein in! You don't want to lose muscle! Remember, your
heart is a muscle too! If you aren't getting enough protein in, your body
will take it from where it can get it - meaning the muscles. The less
muscle you have, the lower your metabolism, meaning again that you will
plateau or gain weight. Don't forget to exercise as well - although you
may be limited in activities for a while, you can still walk. That that
will help speed up your metabolism as well! Congrats on your surgery! And
best of luck - I'm sure you will do great. I know how difficult those
first few months are getting the protein in. Just keep trying.

You are right on schedule. There is usually a stall right about 3 -4
weeks. Your body is realizing that its being starved and fights back.
This will pass but can be very stressful. Keep making the right choices
and try not to eat out for a while, its just too hard. If you do, plan
ahead check menus online so you can decide beforehand. But keep drinking
your water and getting your protien in. You will do fine just be patient,
we have pretty much all lived thru these stalls. It probably won't be the
last one either! Make sure to measure yourself because you will be loosing
inches even if your not loosing pounds. Good Luck!

you need to be getting in more fluids. If you are truly doing 1 shake and 1
bottle of water...Also be sure you eat 3 meals and make them low cal. I
don't think sausage is a good choice unless its turkey or veggie type. I'd
call and speak to your nutritionist. She will have more insight as she
knows more about you. Congrats on surgery and take care! Hugs n God Bless,

I'm very concerned about you drinking only one bottle of water a day. You
need much more than that! Also, don't weigh yourself every day. I do agree
with being careful about sausage. There's too much fat and corn syrup. I'm
three years post op and do have an occasional sausage patty.

You need like 64 oz water minimum to keep things moving. Drink non stop
water. But sipp slowly all day long.

Are you doing any exercises? I use my Wii Fit every morning faithfully and
am dropping about 2lbs a day! Try that or walk for about 15 to 20 mins and
watch the weight fall off. Its working for me so far.
