I have not had surgery as of yet however, I too have to take Vit. D and
asked about mixing in with something in order to take it and was told that
would be just fine. So I would say you to could add it to a small amount of
milk or some thing to help with the pain you have been having. I hope this
works.

I ordered the Vitamin D (5000) with my last order from Bariatric Advantage.
I had no problems at all taking them. Mine were in a capsule form which I
took with my morning protien shake. Maybe try a different brand that is
made for us and take in some sunshine too. Good luck!

The Vitamin D I take is from the Vitamin Shoppe, and it is in tiny little
gel caps that come in either 1000 or 2000 IU. When I was buying my
vitamins before surgerey, I didn't notice that they came in different
strengths, so I just bought the 1000 IU bottle. I WAS taking 2 gelcaps per
day in the morning with most of my other vitamins, but when I had my first
set of labs, my levels came back low, so they had me bump it up to 4,000 IU
per day for 6 weeks. I just picked up a bottle of the 2,000 IU gelcaps and
took one in the morning with food, and one in the evening with food. They
did not bother me, and my levels came back quite well. I'm back to
maintenance dosage right now (2000 IU), which I take in the morning with my
other vitamins at breakfast.

Maybe take lower doses at different times of the day if you feel that is
too strong. Play around with it and see if you notice it getting better.

I was told by my doctor and I have also read that Vitamin D3 is the best
form of vitamin D for us to take post op. I think it has something to do
with absorption.

I take 5000u a day currently and was taking it twice a day for a while with
no problems. I use the Bariatric Advantage dry vit d. Some people are on
50000u per day when having deficency syndromes. Kevin

Right now I am low on Vit D again....This is the second time in two
years...First time I got it back up taking 50,000 iu's of DRY vitamin D (D
3) for 6 weeks then on 5000 iu's thereafter. After RNY we cannot easily
absorb the fat soluble vitamins including Vits A D E and K. (I'm also low
on A again as well! UGH!) So those must be taken in a different form other
than fat soluble. Most of the liquid gel caps of Vit D are filled with the
oil form and are not very effective. After my vit D came up on D3 and my
Parathyroid (PTH) levels came down, I went on 5000 ius plus whatever was in
my calicum citrate. I slacked off taking the extra 5000 iu capsules of D3
for the last 6 mos and sure enough, I'm low again with high PTH levels
again...But the D3 does not bother me...Could it be that you are taking the
oil form and that is what is making you feel ill? I still dump on fats and
heavy oily foods at 6 years po! I get my Dry Vit D3 from
Vitalady.com...She has different kinds and potency as well...Right now I am
taking three 5000 ius daily (15,000 iu) until I can order some 50,000 iu
that helped me the first time! Good luck!
