Question:
Running a 5K, 8K, etc.
Hi, I am 4 years post op. Lost almost 100 pounds and made my goal. Gained 38 pounds, lost 18 pounds of that with weight watchers and running. I love to run and I am in training for my first 5K run. Are there any runners out there that have any tips on combating low blood sugar. What do you eat before a race and when do you eat it. Thanks. Susan — smparker2 (posted on March 30, 2009)

I ran for over 20 years, and during that time completed my Masters Degree
in Exercise Phyisiology. Then I got osteoarthritis (which has nothing to
do with my running). I had to have several back surgeries along with
others beause of degenerative disc desease (DDD)and degenerative joint
desease (DJD). Eight in all, 7 of them in 4 years. That's where the
weight came in. I am 13 months post RNY and a loss of 90 lbs. with 50 lbs
to go. I'm no longer able to run. I envy you. Maybe when I loose a
little more I will be able to run/walk again. Anyway, I tell you all this
to let you know what I'm talking about. For a 5K run you don't have to do
anything special, but if you want the best thing to have is a couple of
pieces of dry or lightly buttered toast about 2 hours before you run.
