Running a 5K, 8K, etc.

Hi, I am 4 years post op. Lost almost 100 pounds and made my goal. Gained 38 pounds, lost 18 pounds of that with weight watchers and running. I love to run and I am in training for my first 5K run. Are there any runners out there that have any tips on combating low blood sugar. What do you eat before a race and when do you eat it. Thanks. Susan
