Question:
8 years post op and need a revsion...badly

I'm 8 years post-op, open RNY, one of the first to be done in a teaching hospital in Chicago (before it became popular). I never got down to my surgeons anticipated weight loss of 140 pounds. I only lost 100 max in a matter of 2.5 years. I'm now tipping the scales at 215, just 50 pounds under my day of surgery weight. My question is, will insurance cover a revision (BCBSIL)I'm so frustrated.    — corpdiva2005 (posted on February 26, 2009)

The first thing to do is be sure a revision is what is needed. If so then many insurance plans will cover it. In the meantime. Re look at your diet. More protien less carbs.

I just got approved for a DS revision with BCBS of MN. Get a copy of your policy and see if you meet the requirements. That is best place to start. It took me 8 months to go thru the approval process. It is not usually a quick process by any means no matter who your insurance. Here is my profile if you want to know what I did http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/gak/ Good luck ! Ginger <><

I am also in your position. I had the surgery about 4 years ago and i am gaining weight even though im not eating differently...im actually eating healthier and exercising. I had the RNY and now i think i need to go more drastic with getting a DS. I also have bcbsil and was told that they didnt cover the surgery anymore. HOWEVER, they do if you had complications from a previous gastric surgery. i asked the staff what complications would be covered and she refused to answer. did you make any progress on getting your DS revision? Have you found any doctors that have experience with doing a RNY to DS revision surgery? I was even thinking about going to IN for a surgeon, but i dont know how insurance works and they dont seem to answer questions directly and the only policy information i can get deals with money- i have to pay my deducible then pay 10%.
