Question:
Does anyone get bad stomach aches?
I am over 3 mos post op lap rny and last night i had a terrible stomach ache around belly button area. It was stabbing pain and felt like someone punching me. I also heard alot of rumbling. Could this be gas pain? I had eaten a sf vanilla fudge pop about 15 minutes before this (which i have eaten before with no problem). Any thoughts on this? — bikermama (posted on August 11, 2008)

It was sugar free but was it fat free or very low fat? Fat can give gas as
will. Our gallbladder has been bypassed (RNY) so the bile which comes from
the GB is not there to break down the fat until much later in the system
where that portion of bowel was reattached. Since you ate it before
without difficulty, it could be that you had something else in your system
diluting the pop cycle, negating it's effects. This often happens to
people. They can it something once time and the next time it makes them
sick. You have to decide if it's worth it. :0) Laura

Just based from my own experiences with RNY, sometimes I'll eat a certain
food with no problems, then later that same food item will make me feel
sick... From your description of the pain, it could be gas. Keep in contact
with your surgeon, so he can help you differentiate between gas,
constipation, lactose intoerance, intestinal blockage, or gall bladder
pronblems...

Some SF sweeteners and my RNY do not get along. I get wicked pain from SF
stuff with sugar alcohols...worse than eating real sugar...I hope it's just
a random thing...Call the doc if it continues...Otherwise these random bad
days happen now and then. Hope you feel better. Today, I have a distinct
heart beat/pulse in my stomach...It's almost like a muscle spasm, but it's
my pulse...I'm not sure what that is all about but it's making me insane!
At least it doesn't hurt! Never really know what's happening day to day.

Hi, I am 5 1/2 weeks RNY ... I get the same stabbing pain about an inch
away from my belly button on the left. I asked my doc about a weeek ago and
he said make sure you are having a BM daily. So now I am on a search of a
safe stool softner that I can use daily. Hope this helps... however
everyone is different so be sure to call your doc...

With the rumbling sounds abit gassy. Do you have an issue with dairy?

Hi - I get the same thing occasionally after I eat sf ice cream. I did as
my surgeon about it and the acohol sugars can cause gas pain. I sometimes
get this after eating broccoli or for no reason at all. I take gas - x at
the first sign. I have the chewables with me always. (don't need water to
take them) They come in little tiny green soft pills as well. It doesn't
happen as often anymore (thank God) Sometimes in addition to the gas x
chewables I take a tums as well. Best of Luck. Niecie

It sounds like a gassy type of pain to me. I suggest Gas-X dissolving
strips.
