Question:
how do you deal with PMS cravings????

i am 2 1/2 months out and i find that aroung that time of the month, i have a taste for salty things such as pretzels or crackers. though i only eat 4 or 5 the point is i am terrified that this might lead to something greater as i am still in the honeymoon period [so to speak]. my friend who had wls surgery came back to work and was eating regular water ice!!! i feel like i'm failing....    — Jayneen0 (posted on May 22, 2007)

I am 4 years post op in August and I had the same problem early post op. I eat salted Almonds and I make a kinda trail mix with salted Almonds, shelled sunflower seeds, walnuts, and a protein bar broken up into little pieces. That takes care of my salt and chocolate cravings and it is good fiber and good for you.

Janeen, you are not failing!!! you have to remember that you are allowed to eat those things that are not good for you, just in small amounts. Think of all those skinny girls that eat chips and candy bars. How much do they eat? One or two bites? That is how it is for me and it has worked great these last six years. That is the reason our stomach is smaller now, so we are forced to eat in moderation. That is why you are only able to eat 4 or 5. Stop freaking out!!! ;) Jennifer D.

For your friend.....a major symptom of anemia is an urge to chew ice. I would recommend she has her blood levels checked to see if this is a possiblity. Maybe her iron needs to be upped. I had a friend (non-WLS) who recently had very serious anemia and her only symptom was the ice chewing with a lack of energy. Not sure if this is really relevant in this case but......

You should never think thatyour are failing. You took the 1st step which was to get the WLS, your braver then most. I dont see anything wrong with a few pretzels for your PMS cravings. its better for you then chocholet and as long as you can limit yourself you should be fine. Good luck
