Question:
What does Supervised Dieting mean?
I am in the stage of pre-op testing at this time. I am on PA ACCESS and one of the requierments are that I need to have 6 months of supervised documented dieting. So when I was at my PCP the other day I told her this then told her that of all the diets I have been on I have never been on one for 6 months straight. I told her with out this I would not get approval for surgery. I was so upset and even started to cry. She said not to worry she looked at my file and showed me all the things we have tried over the years. Then said I have more than enough supervised documented dieting in over the years. So my question is, Is my PCP right? Do I have 6 months of supervised documented in? Eeven though its not all at one time. And it consists of more than 1 main diet? OR do I need to be on the SAME SUPERVISED DOCUMENTED DIET FOR 6 MONTHS? If you would like to email me that would be great! [email protected] — Christy M. (posted on April 12, 2003)

Sounds like you have enough data for the insurance company. I believe
what they are looking for is something documented in your PCP's notes that
you have tried to lose. Good luck with your approvel!

My insurance had the same requirement. It just means that you have had to
be on some kind of diet for 6 CONSECUTIVE months and that it is documented
in your PCP's notes. It doesn't have to be the same diet. You just have
to show documentation that it has been worked on over a 6 month period.

Christy, all insurances are different. All you can do is try it and see.
But it already looks like your PCP is willing to work with you since she
brought out all the records. I think that is wonderful- there is nothing
better than a supportive PCP! I'd send all that diet info in to see, as
well as a letter from your PCP supporting it and that should help alot!
Goodluck to you :-)
