Question:
How long do you need to take the Prilosec and how much?
I had my VSG surgery 18 months ago and moved away from the state where I had my surgery performed. I saw my doctor for my 1 year anniversary checkup before I moved. I failed to ask him how long I needed to take the Prilosec twice a day? It's rather expensive, worth it of course if it prevents any future problems. But I was just wondering if any of you on here have been told that this needs to continue forever???? Or can I maybe back down to once a day???? Thanks for your input. — Jodi L. Hi Jodi,
all i can say is for me i was on it 3x a day for the first year, then 2x
a day for the next 6 months, then 1 x a day for 6months, then taken off.
But now i just take regular strength tums [500] 3 x a day. I had my rny on
May 15th of 2007. Hope this helps some, but i would at least call your dr
and inquire about it.
Take care
Darlene

Call your surgeon and ask him or call your general practioner they can tell
you. Be careful with any medicine until you talk to a doctor.

I too have had VSG. The generic script for Prilosec is called Omeprosol.
The prescription costs $4.00 for 30 capsules. Cut back to one per day.
Take a second if you need it. After adjusting to that, only take one if
you feel heart burn coming on. It works quickly. Good luck!

I have acid reflux, I take Prilosec 1 time a day and probably will have to
for the rest of my life. I have bcbs of PA and they dont cover it, so I buy
the OTC and its worth the price I pay, good luck to you!!

My doc uses Pepcide, over the counter, and I take 20 mg per day. Still
taking it, my surgery was in Mar 2009
