How long do you need to take the Prilosec and how much?

I had my VSG surgery 18 months ago and moved away from the state where I had my surgery performed. I saw my doctor for my 1 year anniversary checkup before I moved. I failed to ask him how long I needed to take the Prilosec twice a day? It's rather expensive, worth it of course if it prevents any future problems. But I was just wondering if any of you on here have been told that this needs to continue forever???? Or can I maybe back down to once a day???? Thanks for your input.
