Question:
Gaining weight
I had my open r-n-y surgery 3 years ago. I never lost my entire weight that I needed to, was about 100 pounds short. I have been gaining weight the past few months, can eat a horse, feel bloated and have stomach pains and much gas all the time lately. Any idea what to do? My surgeon is no longer doing WLS . — beachdog (posted on June 30, 2006)

You might have broken your staples. I have a friend that gained all of her
weight back plus more. I would suggest getting rechecked by another surgeon
and/or trying that transitions stuff that they sell off of this website

Ok Lisa, I tried to read your Profile to see where your at but your last
entry was Feb.2004, Have you've tried going back to Basics? Only intakes of
just Protein & Water (Non-Calorie drinks. Other wise yes go to another
Surgeon. Will your old one recommend anyone or is he refering his patient
to another Doctor? My Surgeon, Dr.Rehnke, told me from te get go that I may
not fully atain the weight loss I'm hoping for. So at that time I might
consider instead of a revision. To then have a Lap Banding place upon my
RNY, for further losing.
Hope this help. Now be a "Good Littler Girl" and update your
profile. We want pictures too!!!

I am two years out and find I can eat alot too! I don't think its staple
line I think the stomach stretches as we get further out. I have about 70
lbs to lose so I didn't get to the goal I wanted either. I bounce up and
down 5 lbs. That has been going on for the last 6 months. Its hard to
keep it down. I do know when I am faithful to eating right and exercising
1 hour every other day I am okay...no gain that is. I find losing now is
very hard even just a pound. The bloated feeling and gas could be things
you are eating. Lots of white carb stuff does that to me so I don't eat
too much of them because of it. I have started taking Relacore to help
with my stress eating. I think its making a difference.....I don't see
anything on scale yet but its only been a week. My suggestion to both of
us....lets start a food diary right everything down even how we feel after
meal to see what it is that is bothering us. Maybe ask ourselves are we
really hungry? Or are we eating to feed another need. I sure hope you do
not need another surgery. I fear that maybe my fate one day and I don't
want to go that route. I want to make this my final stand to keep the fat
off. If you are worried your staple line is ruptured find a stomach Dr
that can do an endoscope on you. They can tell you with that simple test
if there is a pouch problem (ulcers, staple line problem, etc.) I wish you
luck and want you to know you are not alone.

Maybe your stomach pain is trying to tell you something?

Have you thought about a revision to a DS? If you would like to find out
more, come over the DS forum -- there are several revisions that have had
great success
