Question:
Post-op dental care?
I am supposed to have RNY on 04/27/2006 and right now I have a couple of teeth that are bothering me. I don't have the money to see a dentist and my dental insurance wont begin until the 1st of May. I would like to know how soon after surgery would it be okay to have some dental work done or should I try to get it done before my surgery or does it even matter. Hopefully somebody out there has gone thru this and kinda give me some insight. Thanks — tia24tx (posted on April 13, 2006)

Hi there - it all depends on your wls surgeon, and the dentist. Give your
dentists office a call, tell them u are having surgery and need dental
care. Each dentist is different, sometimes there is a month wait,
sometimes 6 weeks, it all depends on the criteria and the level of
dentistry need. Hope that helped, and good luck on your journey, hold
onto your bootstraps, because you are in for the ride of your life. ( a
good one )

I had to have root canal two weeks after I had my surgery. My dentist and
WLS doctor didn't have a problem with it.
