Post-op dental care?

I am supposed to have RNY on 04/27/2006 and right now I have a couple of teeth that are bothering me. I don't have the money to see a dentist and my dental insurance wont begin until the 1st of May. I would like to know how soon after surgery would it be okay to have some dental work done or should I try to get it done before my surgery or does it even matter. Hopefully somebody out there has gone thru this and kinda give me some insight. Thanks
