Question:
What is this pain in my left arm sore to touch and a red streak above it?
I was just released from the hospital I woke up tonight with pain in my left are it is sore when I touch it and has a red streak across the area. It is the arm where my I.V. was in my hand and this is higher up in my arm close to my elbow? — Tara L. (posted on March 8, 2002)

Boy, I'm not sure. But, I will say, when I cut my foot when I was young, a
red streak started going up my leg the next day. Went to the ER and it was
blood poison. I'd call the doctor and get it checked ASAP-if it's blood
poison you just get a little shot and it's gone.

Tara, I had the same problem as you. It goes away with time and don't be
surprised if you see some brusing. I even had a few bumps in mine while it
was healing. I agree with the last posting that warm moist heat is good.

Tara- I had the same problem. I agree with Linda L. Warm moist towels or
a heating pad with moist towel directly on arm worked best for me. My I.V.
came loose on Saturday and it was not dicovered until Monday morning--lots
of fluid in my skin--it hurt like heck, worse than the surgery! Hang in
there and good luck.
