Question:
Hurts when I drink and swallow
Since I have had the surgery on April 13,2001 I have had trouble swallowing water or other liquids. I can only take about a dropper size drink and some times that will hurt. If I take any bigger drink it will hurt and sometimes come back up. It worrys me because I don't think I am getting the correct amount of water I am to be drinking because of the problem. It is killing me because I want to take a big drink of a ice cold cup of water. Has anyone else had this problem. — Lori R. (posted on May 11, 2001)

Lori, i would suggest you call your surgeon . I am only two weeks post-op
and it still hurts to drink cold water (warm is fine) but I can drink much
more than you already.
That just doesn't seem right to me. Pam Nicholas

I couldn't drink very well in the beginning either. I only started drinking
actual water about three weeks ago( i am 7 weeks post op). I felt extremely
dehydrated and wanted to chug anything I saw. My doc said to just be
patient and try to get in as much as possible. Fat lot of good that did!
:-)
Anyway, it does get better, I found hot tea was a good way to get some
liquid in. Decaf, of course. Then peach iced tea crystal light was a good
way back into liquids. I also ate a ton of popsicles.
Good luck on your journey.
