Question:
Anyone 60 or over have lap-band? If so how did it work f or you?
I had lap-band almost 6 years ago don't regret it. Now my mom is looking into it. I am really scared for her because she is very unhealthy. She is 65,diabetic,has COPD, her legs are very sore. It is very hard for her to walk. She feels this is her last hope. I am concern of her age and health. Can anyone give me insight on having the band at 65 and on a lot of meds? — DonaJ (posted on May 10, 2011)

I had the lapband installed when I was 64. I'm now 67 and have lost 100
lbs. I walk on the treadmill 3 times a week (3.50 Miles) and lift weights
twice a week. Have given up most of my medication except for the
cholesterol, which the doc says I'll be taking for the rest of my life. I
am enjoying myself. Come try it out. People don't believe I'm 67. Marti

The best thing I suggest is to go to an information seminar and actually
speak to a surgeon. He/she could assess what is best for your mom.

I was 62 when I had gastric bypass. I've lost 130 lbs (starting at 267)
and feel better and am healthier than I've been for more than 20 years. I
would do it again in a heartbeat!

I had the verticle sleeve gastrectomy when I was 61 years old. Best
decision I have ever made for my health. This is the first that my blood
pressure has been normal in over 20 years and no more high chlorestrol. I
lost the weight effortlessly and all of my blood studies and vitamin levels
are normal at last. I would not do the lap band. You owe it to yourselves
to check out the VSG. No fills and no complications. It is a laproscopic
procedure and no malasorption problems. If you want a healthier Mom,
encourage her to do this. Good luck to you.

I'm 64 and had the RNY 3 years ago. I was morbidily obese with diabeties
and high blood pressure. I also had trouble walking and problems with my
knees. To date I have lost 115 pounds and am still losing about a pound a
month. I was off insulin in 9 months and off blood pressure meds at 6
month. I am healthier than I have ever been. It saved my life and now I
have a quality life. Please don't discourge your mom -it could save her
life.

I was 62 when I had a sleeve and have been very happy. It helped my
diabetes, high blood pressure, and back/legs.
