Question:
Need good appitite suppressant
I had my weight loss surgery 2 1/2 years ago. It was a great success as I lost 105 pounds. I was at my perfect weight. I have now gained 10 pounds and am beginning to panic. I am looking for a appitite suppressant to use that really works. Do you have any suggestions? — doldes (posted on March 27, 2010)

Don't eat things that will cause cravings. Track what you're eating to
help you get back on track. You might Google that Dr. Daniel Amen that was
on KPBS recently who wrote CHANGE YOUR BRAIN, CHANGE YOUR BODY. God bless
you in getting back in control.

Before you start using suppressants, I would go back and talk to your
surgeon. Hopefully he can help you get back on track.
Good luck

Do not take any medications whether OTC or prescription without running it
by your doctor and/or NUT.
That being said, when you feel hungry, drink a 10OZ glass of room
temperature water, then wait 30 minutes before you eat anything...it helps
your digestion, and gives you a feeling of satiety. It also helps you avoid
dehydration and get's your daily fluids in. Then if you still feel hungry,
go for something light and healthy and just a very small amount might be
satisfying. A sugar free mint like Breathsavers might work too, and give
your blood sugar a little rise, which makes you feel fuller. Yes, you body
can be fooled into thinking you are eating sugar, without eating any. I'm a
type one, juvenile onset diabetic, and it certainly works for me, it might
for you. The worst of it is your breath will smell good. Peppermint settle
the stomach and helps prevent and eliminate gas. Cinnamon also helps
satisfy hunger, so sprinkle a little on oatmeal, grits, whole grain toast,
cheerios, etc. for a different taste treat.I had my RNY July 2,2008 and
have lost 175lbs so far and am still losing. I also lost right at 30 inches
from my waist, so I must be doing something right. Lol It scares me some,
but I know I need the skin removal soon, and I need surgery on my neck as
well...and the RNY was the only serious surgery thus far I have had. You
might also want to consider the 5-day pouch test...it is meant for people
over a year out from the surgery.

I drink green tea to help curb appetite...But my problem is that I'm often
NOT hungry when I munch...it's head hunger! It drives me crazy at night. I
suggest you try a decarb diet for a week or so...and eat mainly protein
when you fel hunger...Making good choices even when snacking has keep me on
track...So even though I do eat much more now, I often can keep my weight
under control with those good choices...Carbs make me hungry for sugar and
sweets, so when I've over done carbs, I know I have to work hard the next
day at staying away from them...It's amazing how much easier it is to curb
appetite just by skipping breads, sugars, potatoes and rice for several
days and eating only natural sugar in fruits and veggies...Solid proteins
help too...Softer proteins like yogurt and cottage cheese are great snacks
for staying full, lean solid meats and beans really work great! Remember
too, don;t drink with your meals if you are! Good luck!

Hoodia is a great appetite suppressant and I actually lost 67lbs from
taking it 2 years ago. Thing is, it did wear off about taking it steadily
for 8 months and then afterwards I gained back 55lbs of the weight I had
lost. Maybe just take it every now and then to curb your appetite. I have
started back on Hoodia after 2 years for presurgery weight loss and have
now lost 20 lbs in about 2 months. Best of luck to you.

Please be careful with diet pills.........i was an advicate pill taker for
many years paying hundreds of dollars for them. i definetly lost weight on
them up to 50-pounds at one point. But one thing-once you are off the
pills and are not careful you will gain back what you lost plus a little
more. I recommend going back to the post op diet for 5days, that should
help you shake off the 10 pounds. Best Wishes---Chris
