Question:
Should I have tummy tuck if I haven't had any kids but want them
I met with the plastic surgeon and got approved for panniculectomy (covered by insurance) but today when I call to schedule the office tells me that I should go ahead and get the complete tummy tuck. But I remember them saying during my consultation that I shouldn't get tummy tuck since I've never had kids but want kids in the future. I was 450lbs and now 235 so I never expected or wanted to be skinny or have a tight body. Everything esle is flabby so I don't want to jeopardize my chances for smooth pregancy/delivery because of cosmetics. Am I foolish to go ahead with panni procedure instead of full tummy tuck? — vestad (posted on November 30, 2007)

HI Vesta
I work as a MA for a plastic surgery and we see this all the time.
1. a panniculectomy will only remove the skin below your belly button.
2 It will not remove the skin above your belly button unless you have the
vertical extension and your muscle plicated.
3 as far as children if you know that you want children in the future... I
would only have the panniculectomy.
you can only safely have 1 tummy tuck in your life time. With the panni
you can safely have multiple children. you can ask me any more questions.
Ill be glad to guide you

Vesta be very careful what you choose, both surgeries come with issues
regarding pregnancy. Even if you wait 3 years to get pregnant, if you have
twins or if you have large babies (I did), you can still bust open that
incision if it goes too tight during pregnancy. I would be very careful
what you choose. Do some research and get some fact outside of your
surgeons office before you decide. Maybe a 2nd opinion or a GYN surgeon's
opinion might help you. Take care. Patricia P.

I was told not have ANY plastic surgery done after WLS if you planned on
having kids.
