Question:
Gastric bypass, plastic surgery, and tax deduction
Does anyone who has had gastric bypass surgery, subsequent reconstructive (plastic) surgery, have any information about being able to deduct these medical expenses from federal taxes? Generally plastic surgery is disqualified from medical deductions. — luu (posted on November 10, 2006)

I'm pretty sure you can deduct that part of your medical expenses over 7%.
Now, generally, your insurance will not pay it. Just because plastic
surgery is elective doesn't mean you cannot deduct it along with your other
medical expenses.
