What the difference in Medicaid and an HMO medicaid plan?

I live in Florida and have medicaid contracted through United health care .(HMO) Is there a difference when it comes to WLS between the medicaid and the medicaid HMO plan? Is it easier to find a surgeon if you have the HMO medicaid?    — [Anonymous] (posted on August 24, 2001)

Having the HMO you will have to have your primary physician referre you to a surgeon who does it. That will be the trickiest part-finding a surgeon to take Medicaid HMo-If you can find a surgeon it should not be a problem. Having regular medicaid would enable you to go with anyone you choose as long as the regular medicaid was accepted... Hope this was not too confusing.
