Question:
Is there a certain time you should stop drinking Protein drinks?
Is it a good idea to drink protein drinks late at night? I am 5 months post-op and I try and get in at least 90-120 grams of protein per day. The protein I take has no carbs, no sugar, 120 calories, and I think 1.5g fat, and I mix it with diet teas (no calories, no surgar, no fat) or with just plain water. Will it interfer with my weightloss if I am drinking it late or right before I go to bed as a snack if I get hungry? — s r B. (posted on August 7, 2001)

No. Might actually help. I've heard body builders say that it is an
excellent time to use protein to convert fat to muscle. WAIT! Don't get
excited! It's not a whole belly worth, only a few cells, but hey a few
cells a night adds up, huh?

The post-WLS patients in my support group all told me that you shouldn't be
taking in that much protein a day. 60 grams a day is good, but when you
take as much as you are, they said the doc told them it puts "a
strain" on your kidneys. I don't want to go through WLS, only to
someday end up on dialysis! I'd ask your doc or nutrtionist about this.
Why are you taking so much?

How much protein you should be consuming daily (whether obese or not)
depends on your height. I am 5'10" and my requirements are 80 grams
daily of protein.
