Question:
How in the world do you keep your food warm when it takes so long to eat?

I am 11 days post-op and eating pureed foods...it took me 30 minutes to eat a scrambled egg. Does anyone have any great hints on how to keep the food warm that long? I don't feel much like eating anyway, and cold eggs don't help! I don't really like "nuked" food, either, so the microwave is a last resort. Thanks in advance.....    — beachbum6264 (posted on June 30, 2001)

Hi, I am still pre-op so not sure how others handle this but years ago ( my kids are 20 & 21) they use to sell special divided dishes for keeping baby food warm. There was an opening that you poured boiling water in and then sealed it up...the heat from water kept the food warm...then they use to have electic baby food warmers too....maybe you could call Babies R us or a specalty baby store and find out if they still make something. good luck! I used to warm my plate in the microwave. Put a damp paper towel on the plate and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. It used to help keep the food warm a little longer than on a cold plate.

I'm looking for a way to keep my food warm too. My dietician suggested a baby food warming tray (or whatever they're called). But I'm going to try one of those mug-size beverage warmer things; its like the round hot part of your coffee maker, what you place the coffee pot on; only this one is mug-size. I figure this would also accomodate the saucer I eat my food off of. I can't tell you how well this gizmo works because I'm experimenting and I didn't get it yet. I just ordered one (brand new) from e-Bay for $8.88 & it was a set of the warmer thing and a Campbell's soup logo mug. They had alot of them, if I remember correctly. (I think I typed 'Beverage Warmer' or 'Cup Warmer' in the search on e-Bay)

I was only eating 1-2 oz at a time, so that was not a problem to keep fairly warm. We were to eat over 15-20 minutes, as anything longer than that was considered grazing (pouch stretching). I was 9 months out before I could eat a whole egg, so that might be why it gets cold. It doesn't flow through very quickly. I rather like the idea of the heated baby plate, though, since even in 15 minutes the food can be less appetitizing.
