Question:
Did anyone NOT get an approval letter?
I was told by my surgeon's office that they got approval by calling BCBS. I called BCBS and was told that I would get an approval letter, then was told (in another call) that there would be no letter. I went for pre-op testing last week and the financial counselor asked if I got an approval letter in the mail. I told her no and she said it should be no problem because she remembers them approving over the phone. My surgery is next week. Should I be concerned? Wondering if any of you had surgery but never got a written approval in the mail. Thanks! — [Anonymous] (posted on June 21, 2001)

I never received a letter of approval. Mine was done over the phone and I
just called my doctor and they were told over the phone also. I am sure
that getting it in writing is ideal but I was just happy getting it over
the phone. I documented everytime I spoke to the insurance, the time, date
and who I spoke to. I never had any trouble afterwards. I wish you the
best.

I didn't get one...Aetna gave my office a number over the phone and that's
what the clinic has to refer to.

Neither my husband or I got an approval letter for our surgery.
The approval was given directly to our surgeon.
