Question:
Has anyone dealt with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas?
I am trying to find if anyone has dealt with BCBS of Texas. I have looked the book upside down and called customer service. One gal told me nothing was mentioned in the coverage book another gal told me it wasn't covered at all even if medically necesarry. I have an apt. next week to see the surgeon and would hate to have to go through all this and then be flatly denied with not evena chance of appeal. — gracie B. (posted on June 7, 2001)

Gracie, I too have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, and I
went to my Primary Physician who sent my referral in to the
Utilization Management Dept. Panel; within the insurance and was
approved for (at this point) 3 OP visits (I go to see the surgeon
on June 26, 2001). I too was told that this insurance does not
cover this procedure but my nurse and my Primary Physician took
it all the way up... good luck and I hope this helps a little.

Irma, thanks for responding. I didn't go through my primary physician. My
policy states that as long as I go to an approved provider I didn't need a
referal. Would it be in my best interest to get a referal?

Hi again, Lets see all though we can go to any approved provider
if our Insurace states that they do not cover a certian procedure
or surgery; it is my understanding that we have to get a referral
from our Primary Physician deeming it medically necessary and it
goes on from there....call 1800 insurance number and drill them...
maybe they have better words of wisdom.... ours should be the same,
correct?
let me know.... good luck...
