Question:
Do you lose recently gained weight faster?

This may seem like a silly question, but I recently gained about 45lbs since being unemployed since January 2001, I went from 250 to 295(all I do is eat), since I will be having my surgery in June 2001, will I loose this excess weight right away since I gained it so fast. I hope so. Thanks to all of you and May God bless each one of you.    — blank first name B. (posted on May 28, 2001)

Deborah, It would be wonderful if it worked that way, but unfortunately, it doesn't. Once it goes on your body, fat is fat; it doesn't matter how old or new it is or how quickly it got there. Being at home when you used to be at work makes it really easy to put on weight, I've been there, for sure! Everyone loses weight at a different pace after surgery, but most likely it will exceed your expectations based on your previous dieting experiences. Try to be as good to your body as possible between now and your surgery. Every pound you DON'T put on now, will be a pound you DON'T have to lose post op. Best of luck to you!

Yep, I wish it worked like that too. I gained 11 lbs. in the month between finding out I was approved and getting the operation. One week I think I had Mexican food 4 meals in a row ... a BIG meal! Ice cream, cookies, junk, junk, junk. At one point, I was sick of eating. The only thing it does is ADDs to the pounds you have to lose. After the operation I thought I'd be down a lot faster if I had not binged like I did. I must say, most of us do that since there are foods we won't be able to eat again. Good luck, don't be too hard on yourself.
