Question:
Has anyone ever had a pre-existing clause lifted from their BC/BS policy?
I have spoke to a supervisor and he thinks I should grieve my situation. So I faxed a letter. They will not DENY or APPROVE my request for pre-approval for the surgery. I need help on how to go about this. The hospital will not go head without pre-approval for payment from insurance co. — [Anonymous] (posted on May 10, 2001)

I too had a pre-exsiting clause on my BC/BS. As there are many different
types of BC/BS, I don't know if this will help you or not. When my papers
went in for approval from the doctor's office I finally got a call and they
told me I wasn't approved because of a pre-exsiting clause (and the fact
that I had this insurance for 6 months) that said I had to wait 12 months
and reapply. Maria in my dr's office asked was there a way to get around
the pre-exsit clause. They said if I had proof of continuning coverage I
could request a waiver. I did have the HIPPA paper that they give you when
you leave one job to go to another one that said I had have coverage for
the last 18 months. I faxed the HIPPA paper to BC/BS and on the faxe cover
sheet wrote. Please extend waive to my request for surgery. Please find
attached proof of continuning coverage. They received it and I was approved
the next day.Surgery date is July 24. Good Luck on your journey. I know
I'll see you on the other side.
