Question:
LIQUID DIET 10 DAYS BEFORE SURGERY?
My surgeon requires liquid diet 10 days before surgery. I'm having Lap RNY May 29th. I've never seen anyone else post such a long liquid diet before surgery. If I could go that long without food I wouldn't need this surgery. — MaryAnn S. (posted on April 29, 2001)

I was on for two weeks and I've heard of plenty in my docs office that were
on it for much longer. The reasons behind it are very valid. The protein
helps prepare your body for surgery. You'll heal better. Plus, to drop that
weight so quickly right before your surgery helps to make sure he can do it
lap and not open you up. Your liver will shrink a lot and since it is the
main organ blocking your stomache.... well you can do the math. I wasn't
perfect I'll admit. But I was pretty close and I'm glad I did. I've talked
to so many people in my doc's office that cheated and they tended to have
complications or had to go open at the last minute. The liquid diet sucks
but not as much as staying fat.

Be glad............ My Doctor Told me to lose 100 lbs. before they would
consider surgery and had me on a liquid protien diet for 4 weeks. You'll be
the better for it when it comes time to recover. Believe me........
