Question:
Has anyone used split billing to reduce out of pocket expenses?

I had my endoscopy, which showed a hiatal hernia. The doctor said that it can be surgically repaired. I want to use this opportunity to have the insurance pay for the hospital stay and some of the surgeon's fees which it would have to pay regardless. Does anyone have any experience with this approach either good or bad?    — John T. (posted on February 25, 2001)

Yes this is exactly how my insurance paid for 15 thousand of my open RNY. I have two polocies with BCBS both deny gastric bypass surgery. But i needed and they approved to pay for my gallbladder to be taken out in return they paid for reasonable surgeon fees for gallbladder removal and all of my hospital stay. Therefore i ended up only having to pay for the surgeons fee for the gastric bypass which was 5 thousand. Saved alot of money wouldnt have been able to have it if this would not have been the case. Hope this helps your surgeons insurance person will be able to tell you if this will work with your insurance company.
