Question:
Could hair loss be more due to lack of fat absorption?
I have read the posts concerning hair loss and protein diets. Most people have said that they still lost hair with high protein diets. I have always understood that fat plays a role in hair health and that people who cut the fat from their diets can loose hair (remember the no-fat diets of the 90s... tried those too). Is it possible that the hair loss has more to do with the body's inability to absorb far and less to do with the protein? There is not much you can do about this, of course... but just wondering. — Yowhuzup Y. (posted on February 12, 2001)

Interesting, I don't know. But, there are theories about the hair loss.
Rapid weight loss is one reason for hair loss, shock on the body from the
surgery is another. Personally, I lost a lot of hair from 3 to 6 months
and I was getting all my vitamins and protein in -- so that wasn't the
problem. Some doctors say that if it is going to happen to you, there is
nothing you can do to prevent it. There are, however, things you could do
to contribute to it -- like not getting enough nutrition.

Due to the fact that I still have my gallbladder and not wanting gallstones
(you get gallstones when your fat intake is low)I have not limited my fat
intake. I do not go over board but I do get plenty of fat grams everyday.
I have lost alot of hair. I think it more depends on how your individual
body will react to starvation mode.
