Question:
Anyone Experience Tingling/Numbness while Sleeping? Vitamin Deficiency?
Last fall, around November, I began noticing an ache/pain on the bottom of my right foot, between the heel and ball(it doesn't bother me when I wear heels). I attributed it to an increase in my walking, but it's still with me. About two to three weeks ago, I noticed that I was having tingling in my feet and hands while sleeping, and occasionally sometimes during the day. Now I'm having lower back pain. I just started aerobics and using the treadmill, so I suppose the back pain could be related, but I'm worried I may have a vitamin deficiency (though my 6 month labs came back normal) or the beginnings of something more serious (neuropathy or Guillian Barre) since I've been trying to diagnose myself through research. Thoughts and comments appreciated. — [Deactivated Member] (posted on January 8, 2001)

Well...you should certainly get it checked out--a B vitamin deficiency or
mineral deficiency could cause those symptoms. What did your 6-month labs
include? Are you religious about taking your vitamins and are they chewable
or crushed? Go see your doc and ask, especially about the labs. Better
yet, speak to the nutritionist first, then see the doc--most MDs aren't so
knowledgeable about signs of nutritional deficiency as RDs are. I presume
you aren't diabetic? Because pre-existing nerve damage from high blood
sugars could cause symptoms, even if your sugars are good now. But if
everything checks out, don't continue to fret. GBS is pretty rare, and
this does not sound much like it. Dehydration, muscle/tendon overuse can
contribute to some scary, but basically benign, symptoms. You might just
have plantar fascitis (an inflammmation of connective tissue in the arch of
your foot from overuse and fallen arches), and things like that.
