Question:
Can you still have surgery if you have a cold(sore throat/heaviness of chest) ?
I am scheduled for surgery on Dec. 12 and as of right now I have a bad cold. My throat is sore and my chest feels sore when I take deep breaths, I am 10 days away and I am afraid this will be a setback. Does anyone know? — Jackie R. (posted on December 5, 2000)

Hi..I had a cold 6 days prior to my surgery....I rested, downed ibuprofen,
rested, took vitamin C, rested, huffed vick's vapor rub (what I didn't
slather on myself!), kept as clean as humanly possible, rested, go look at
my profile..hahaha...you'll see. Best wishes, I just know you will be well
in time..or at least I'm going to have faith that you will be. God
bless~Terri

I got pharyngitis 3 days before surgery. My surgeon sent me to my PCP for
shots of decadron and rocephin. Cleared it up quickly and surgery went off
as planned.

Hi Jackie, One of my surgeons pre-op requirements was to call his office if
I had cold symptoms, sore throat or a fever. Hopefully in 10 days your cold
will be pretty much cleared. I hope you feel better and good luck with your
surgery. Janice

Depending on how bad your cold is and hoping it's not pneumonia or
bronchitis, they might postpone surgery. But I would call the surgeon's
office and see what they say and what their protocol is regarding a
stiuation like that. Hope it all works out...Hugs,
