Question:
Discharge and bleeding from the navel, pre-op.
I have been experiencing discharge and bleeding (spotty)as well as inflammation and itching from my navel and e-mailed my primary doctor to ask if he thought this could pose a problem with WLS surgery. He responded back by e-mail that this could be "patent urachus" a leftover problem from fetal days?!?! I looked it up on the net, but so far don't hear of any instances of an adult having this....however, it requires surgery to repair. Anyone heard of this? — Meryl F. (posted on October 3, 2000)

Is it possible that you have a fungal infection in your umbilicus? It's a
nice warm, dark, moist place. Perfect for yeastie beasties and other stuff
to do their business. Lots of people post-op get fungal infections in
their skin folds because it is so hard to keep those areas dry. You might
want to ask your doc, and if he/she approves, try using and over the
counter yeast infection oinment (like Monistat); spread it in and around
your belly button. It might help.

I have also had this, I have tried everything to get
rid of it. I asked my doctor and he stated that if I could
live with it, it is better that having anything done to it.
If you find anything out please share it with me.
