Question:
I can hear things moving through my intestines, as though it's VERY...

close to the surface. It sounds like air and such. It's right above my belly button. I can hear it when I bend over, when I'm "using my muscles" in a Bowel movement (sorry it's gross) AND when I push on it with my fingertips. Is this a sympton of hernia? Does a hernia contribute to a blockage (bowel obstruction)? This frightens me, am I over-reacting? I am seven months post-op from the DGB w/DS.    — Christina D. (posted on September 20, 2000)

That sounds normal - it does not sound like a hernia at all.

HI, I have the same sounds and I do have a hernia. I can hear them right now, as I write. It's most noticable after I eat and when I have gas. I can get the gas quickly and am trying to figure out what is the culprit. I've been reading lots of posts today and it seems that the most common culprits are Sorbitol/manitol (sweetners), Caffeine, Milk, and excess Carbs. I ingest all of these items in varying degrees. I'm going to try to eliminate them one at a time and see if I can isolate the cause. Additionally, I am trying to set a surgery date for my hernia repair. I have been on a plateau for 9 months and my dr. says the hernia repair can be the cause of it. See your dr if you think you might have a hernia. Mine is huge. I am 1 year post op; Gastric Bypass/Duodenal Switch, Open. down 60 pounds to 140. 28% body fat. Good luck.
