Question:
Wife is five weeks post-op and nauseated almost constantly...
I have read all the posts pertaining to nausea and find none similar to what's happening with my wife. She is nauseated almost constantly and quite uncomfortable. All she does is dry heave. Almost never does she throw up anything substantial. Has anyone else had this happen and if so, what was done to ease it or make it go away? She is visiting the doctor today to see if there is anything she can do to be comfortable while recovering. I am not oblivious to what she is going through because I am post-op RNY over a year ago and did not suffer like this at all. Any and all help is appreciated. — Mark B. (posted on August 31, 2000)

I am not post op so cannot offer any advice but think her going to doc is
the right thing, and it should be today for sure. I don't know the cause
but they do have nausea meds. Doc needs to know she's having these
symptoms so she can get proper treatment. She should not be feeling so
lousy.

Hi Mark-My advice is to talk to your doctor and get an endoscopy. I was
competely nauseated all the time at five weeks so I went to get an
endoscopy-found out that my stoma was almost completely closed only had an
1/8 if an inch opening. Well the procedure was completely painless and I
felt 100% better after it was done. Good Luck!

when I was 3 weeks post-op I came down sicker than expected, uncontrolable
vomiting and diahrea, finally after much complaning and over the counter
meds not working they tested me ( stool) for a bacteria,c-dificyl somthing,
and sure enough I had it, caused by the Iv antibiotics during surgery, they
killed off all the good bacteria and the bad took over. keep complaing
until you get satisfaction. Good luck.

And I had marginal ulcers, one after another. It forms where the intestine
attaches to the pouch and works much like stenosis to close off the outlet.
So, looks like we're unanimous, back to the doc and push for a scope, not
platitudes! It's inconvenient, not painful and the problem can often be
fixed that every day or within 48 hours, as in my case.
