Question:
looking for some advice on getting a GOOD TASTING protein shake
Hi. I'm due to have my surgery June 7th and I was looking for some advice on getting a GOOD TASTING protein shake or even a supplement. How does one get adaquate protein in post-op like the first couple of months. Thanks!!!! Kristin — MissAuntieK (posted on April 27, 2000)

Hi Kristin, I use the 100% Whey Protein from GNC. I use the vanilla and it
tastes pretty good. I have tasted some GROSS kinds but this is pretty good!
Hope this helps!

Dear Kristin, I'm preop, too, and just had my visit with the dietician. She
recommended that I buy a jello and a broth that contain extra protein
through a mail order service. The name of the place is TAD enterprises and
they carry Novartis products which are specifically designed for patients
who are nutritionally at risk. The jello and broth are especially important
in the clear liquids phase. There's also an instant protein powder which is
suppose to be tasteless so it can be added to most anything. The gelatins
contain 12 grams protein per 4 oz. serving and also contain 33 grams of
sugar. She said to only eat a 2 oz. serving at a time due to the sugar
content. The broth has 7 grams per 6 oz. serving and no sugar, and the
instant protein powder has 6 grams protein per scoop and should be mixed in
at least 4 oz. of most hot or cold beverages or prepared soft foods. The
directions also allows for 1 scoop dissolved in 2-4 oz. water. The gelatins
come in Cherry, lime, and orange. The broths are chicken or beef. Their
phone is 1-800-438-6153. Hopes this helps.
