Question:
I am experiencing a low back ache- could it be kidney stones?

Starting a few days ago, I started experiencing a few things simultaneously. Please let me know what you think: I started the symptoms of a yeast infection, so I did the 1 day treatment thing. On the same day, I started a vague low back pain. I didn't think they were related at the time, but I still have both after 4 days. The back pain is not sharp, but constantly there. The 1 day treatment doesn't seem to be working. Do you think these things could be related? Also, what are the signs of kidney problems besides back ache and what are the treatments? I had my GB out during my RNY, so I know that isn't involved! Thank you!    — M B. (posted on April 9, 2000)

MB: Absolutely, this could be a kidney infection, or a number of other things. I would suggest a trip to your PCP as soon as you can arrange it. Try and increase your water intake until you get there. Good luck, and keep us all posted on your progress. Jaye Carl, RN, open proximal RNY (divided) 7-29-99, 98 pounds gone forever!

Don't get medical opinions from people without qualifications and who cannot examine you. We are a support group not an interent diagnostic service. See a doctor for anything that lasts more that four days. (Kidney stones cause flank pain that is incredibly painfull).

two months ago my daughter experienced the signs of yeast infection,at the same time a sideache, the doc said tests yes for YI,we treated that, sideache still there and werse, then back to doc. for her ear, all within two weeks, ends up in our emergency room and then i was told to take her to another, 60 miles away(we live in small town , our surgeon not there)she was diagnosed with appendisitis, and they were taken out in time, barely. thru this i told her to take tylenol, thought mabie it was cramps.(talk about feeling guilty). the raging infection in her appendix was the cause for all of it, it nocked out her immune sytem and she came down with everything. This is my only experience with those syymtoms, I`ll pray this is not whats wrong with you ,but just keep all this in the back of your mind.(if you still have your appendix). GOOD LUCK,GET BETTER SOON.

Thanks to all of you who posted and spent your time so generously trying to help me! I went to the walk in clinic and it seems I have a urinary tract infection. The meds should kick in in a few days! Thanks again!

My sincere apology to MB if you were hurt by my directness (I was flamed by direct email). I was not intentionally sharp. I was truly concerned that somebody may give bad advice. Any pain that cannot be explained and lasts more than a day or two should be followed up with a one on one with a qualified health professional. I am pleased you took care of it. Still, this is not an excuse and again accept my apologies. Mark

Mark, I was not offended at all, and actually, you are right! I posted the question with the idea that someone in here had probably had experience with a UTI and I never have, so I thought I would seek people's experiences with symptoms, but not necessarily solutions:) And- they helped! Thanks for both your concern in posting the first response and for the unneeded apology!
