Question:
Employer is requesting medical necessity as they state this is elective surgery
My employer has said that i needed a letter of medical necessity from my doctor to have this surgery done as some people 'elect' to have this surgery. Strange thing is that I WORK for doctors....what can i do about this ....can they do this? I feel they are wrong to request this. Please Help! — lisa1970 (posted on September 26, 2005)

What is wrong with a letter of medical necessity? You are going to have to
give one to the insurance company too.
I even have to receive a written clearance by all my pre-op doctors and my
personal physician.
Just get the letter and make a copy for future use and move on towards
surgery.

I gave my employer a letter of necessity when I applied for FMLA. (I work
for the govt. doing security at the airports.) They turned me down saying
trhat I CHOSE to have this surgery.Since I needed the surgery, I crossed
my fingers and put my life in the hands of my surgeon and God. I have never
regreted having the surgery.
