Question:
Can't see dr. for month and having excruciating pain
I have been having some excruciating pain in my "old stomach" area, that when it starts it spreads, burning, throughout my abdominal and chest area. I begin having difficulty breathing, and my heart begins beating irratically. I can't get into the doctor until Sept. but need to know if anyone has had any of this. It can occur at anytime, and last for a max of 5 minutes. I had an episode in front of my Fiance and he is so scared. I start shaking, and when it is over I fell weak for about an hour, and then it is as if nothing ever ocurred. At first it was once every so often this occurred, now it is more frequent, and I can never tell when it will happen. I am hoping that someone may be a bit familiar with, or have had similiar experience and offer some suggestions. I have had my gall bladder out, '94, so it is not that. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice. Rosie — Rosie W. (posted on August 11, 2005)

Whats your surgeon say? With ANY unknown severe pain go to the ER
immediately the next time it occurs. Your surgeon shou;d see severe pain
cases IMMEDIATELY. You need pro medical help.

Umm..ya ER. Is your surgeon aware of the intensity of the pain? Is it
your surgeon that is asking you to wait a month? You see your PCP! Pain
should NEVER = wait a month.

I agree with everyone else that you should be seen in the emergency room.
I did want to add that something like this happened to me a couple of
times, though not to your extent. Mine was pain and nausea related. I
felt like my old gut was on fire. For me, believe it or not, it seemed to
be seasonal, like allergies yet not.
My question to you is are you on an acid reducer like Prilosec? My doctor
would put me on that and it seemed to help. Please let the board know what
it turns out to be. Mine, thankfully, was mild compared to what it could
have been.
Good luck to you!

GO TO THE ER NOW - I had a terrible burning pain from my chest through to
my back - finally called my DR. - he told me to meet him in the ER and I
was in surgery within an hour - I had a strangulated hernia - could have
lost another good portion of my intestines if I did not act quickly enough.
