Question:
I have a buldge in my stomach and wanted to know if it is a hernia?

I have a buldge in my stomach that is a little bigger on the right side. It is just above the belly botton and is about 4 inches wide on the right and 3 inches on the left of the scare(open RNY).I thought that it was just gaining a little weight but my family has mentioned that it sticks out in a lump.I was thinking that it is a hernia and wanted to know others opinion. It is not that hard and it gets bigger and smaller depending on how much I have eaten. Any one have a guess? Thanks Dave    — Dave G. (posted on July 7, 2005)

Only a Dr. who had examined you can idntify if it is a hernia or not. It would be very important to see a Dr. as if it is it may need treatment. I got a bowel obstruction from a hernia and had to have emergency surgery. If it is something else it also may need treatment.

Your doctor will know for sure but in my case, my doc sed i have a small hernia. When i eat i get that same bulge...lol.

Dave you really need to see your doctor about it. As a nurse I know that some incisions will become lumpy and actually form little hard areas but that doesn't sound like that however I'm not a doctor and your doctor is the one who should answer your questions.

I ain't a doc but I've had two hernias. Sounds like a hernia to me. Check out my profile, I explained what mine looked like in there and there's even a picture of Hermie too. Are you having pain from this? I dealt with my 1st hernia for 18 months.

yep sounds just like me, except i have 2 now. go to a general surgeon, i did and they were the only ones who knew what it was.mine is on the same side as yours too. i noticed mine when i was 10 months out of wls. it has gotten bigger since then and its repair time in 2 months.

sounds like a hernia to me. I have had 3 removed. Fourtunatly my WLS removed them for me. Always have xray and get it removed ASAP they can be very dangerous and ugly. Be Well
