Question:
Need input on LapBand - RNY conversion.
Has anyone gone from Lap Band to RNY? I had Lap Band 3 years ago and it is a real good thing, but I think I need RNY. I am looking for anyone that has had this done and I am also looking for input on the RNY. What is the 30 - 40 year outlook? Any input will be appreciated! — Maria B. (posted on June 14, 2005)

Maria, there aren't any numbers on what the 30-40 year out look is because
they have not been doing RNY for that many years. They have been doing
other WLS for close to 30+ years and for those people they have been
recommended to have their surgeries converted to RNY or another type of
WLS. There are people out there that have had their band converted to RNY
but they have to meet certain criteria with the surgeon to do so. You will
have to start doing research on the net and start asking your regular
doctor what he or she recommends. Or even better see the surgeon that did
your band. Good luck.

Question: If the lapband procedures was such a good thing, what factors are
leading you to think you now need the more radical RNY?
The more pertinent information you give us, Maria, the more useful our
responses can be.
Neither procedure has magical powers that will protect us from regaining
weight after 12 months. Both procedures buy us time to change our behaviors
around food & body image.
Perhaps it is this aspect of the process that would be a better investment
of your time and resources?
Lovingly,
Lauralyn
