Question:
How long was your stomach swollen and sore after hernia repair?

I had hernia repair with mesh surgery last wednesday. My stomach is bigger now then it was before he fixed the hernia. My surgeon told me it may take several months for he swelling to go down. He did not do a tummy tuck and I look really odd now because my stomach puckers in around my belly button where he fixed it. I was just wondering if other people had this experience and how long it lasted.    — Anissa (posted on May 27, 2005)

I found the recoup longer and more painful than the Open RNY...it was 6 or 7 weeks until I was not swollen and sore, still had some pain 8 weeks after. My hernia was enormous and I had a lot of mesh put in. Good luck ot you

I had my hernia repaired about two months ago. My incisional hernia was 11 x 17 cm. He had to extend my original bypass incision by about 1 1/2 inches. My stomach was not really that swollen and it was obviously smaller than before he fixed it. Mine was larger than a softball poking out in the middle of my stomach and it was obviously not there afterwards. My skin is kind of puckered looking all the way down my incision. It was much more painful than my gastric bypass because my hernia was so large and I also had adhesions covering my entire abdomen that he had to cut down. I have absolutely no pain from it now and am so glad I had it done.

Anisia, I had my 2nd Hernia repaired since Oct, of 2004, this one was bigger than a softball, not only that i was also cover with adhesions, so they had to be cut out its been alitle over 2 weeks and Iam still in PAIN!!!!! And this surgery was done laposcoptic which I thought would be easier, which it was but in is more painful the dotor said because he had to hit all the nerve ending doing this way, my stomach looks like someone beat the crap out of it. I mean its BLACK-N-BLUE :(. And yes I had mesh put in to and my stomach is very swelled. But the Doctor said which i went this past Friday its normal for it to be swelled, he said it will take about 3 months for it to go down. Well I hope you feel better I no how you are feeling. Iam in the same boat. I acually think these's hernia repairs are worse then the gastric-bypass. Well once again take care , and I hope you feel better. Christine Clymire 151 lbs on the losing side :)
