How long was your stomach swollen and sore after hernia repair?

I had hernia repair with mesh surgery last wednesday. My stomach is bigger now then it was before he fixed the hernia. My surgeon told me it may take several months for he swelling to go down. He did not do a tummy tuck and I look really odd now because my stomach puckers in around my belly button where he fixed it. I was just wondering if other people had this experience and how long it lasted.
