Question:
How soon can you have sex after laproscopic RNY?
I was at the surgeon's today and forgot to ask this very important question. I feel rather silly calling about it and thought I would ask here. I'm in excellent health and 3 weeks post op. I'm still sore and don't expect anything right away, but my husband is chomping at the bit and I don't know when it's safe and he certainly doesn't want to hurt me. Can anyone help? — pollypat (posted on May 26, 2005)

Polly,
I was released to have sex after 2 weeks, I think we finally actually had
sex at the 3rd week. We tried at 2 1/2 but I was still sore and he was
afraid of hurting me. If you can tolerate it you should be fine. I had a
lap RNY and wasn't sore after 3 weeks. Enjoy and know that as long as you
can tolerate it you will be fine.

I was the one chomping at the bit, I am a very sexual person. I think the
first time was about 2 weeks after surgery. I had a VERY uneventful
surgery and a very wonderful recovery... so it wasn't that hard for me.
Basically, we did it without too much movement, I know it sounds weird, but
I was on my side and he entered from behind(both of us pointed in the same
direction.) With my back arched, he could do all the work without
disturbing my surgeons craft! It felt great, even though I wanted to move
more! It worked for both of us, though not our greatest sex ever, it took
the edge off. It continued that way for a while, each time I was able to
participate a little more until it was back to normal... and beyond! HAve
a great time...
P.S.
To my knowledge the rule is 6 weeks, or when you feel up to it.
Personally, I think a BJ would be more painful... but what about some nice
lotion, warmed to your body temp., and then caressing him... not too much
movement on your part and heaven for him! Explore your options... I know
my man would have been just as happy with me just laying there watching
him, while giving him directions. This is the time to be diverse. GO FOR
IT.... whatever "IT" may be! Good Luck!

It might be a good idea to wait until you are out of the hospital.
Seriously, for me I think it was only a couple of weeks after my lap RNY.
When I had my hernia repair it was a little longer because I was still sore
from the open incision. Just go slow and don't do anything too wild &
rough in the beginning. You'll be fine.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to respond to my question. I
was so embarrassed asking, but you put me at ease and really gave me good
information. God bless each of you!
