Question:
Can Dr recommend Personal Trainer and get insurance to pay?

I have a personal trainer in the HJollywood, CA area to help me with the loose skin and exercise issue. He has done WLS patients before, had his own fitness show in Florida, and is certified. He told me that he has had at least two post op patients that he was paid through a health insurance company. Has anyone else heard of or done this?    — cinergy4u (posted on April 10, 2005)

I've only heard of insurance paying for a physical therapist, not a personal trainer. I have UHC, and they do not pay for anything but physical therapy -- and they only pay for so many visits per year to a physical therapist. Check your insurance booklet or call the number on the back of your card. I'd also ask the trainer what specific insurance paid for his services and how it was billed. Good luck!

Working in the medical review/ins field for years, I don't believe it. There is no way that an ins would pay for a personal trainer.
